Tango and Cash

clockwork orangeAfternoon, all. As was the case this time last week, we’re treading unknown waters. Bloomfield Road has been as foreign a soil as the climbs of Lombardy in recent memory; all we know for sure is that it’s a ground none too equipped for the onset of deep burrowing frost and the locals don’t seem too keen on playing there. Only three wins have trickled into the Blackpool home column this season- in what, let’s not forget, is their first crack at thing. The adage is that they’ve been a breath of fresh air; quite like us in the ol’ Euro Pot, I suppose. A few marquee (there’s that word again) plunderings of supposedly superior opposition and plenty of goals and excitement along the way.

After a hair-raising opening lap, though, the Tangerines are on the slide. Behind all the West Country brand wisdom of Ian Holloway- The Dalia Farmer, to steal a phrase- there’s the stark figures of one win in nine. Which is quite categorically relegation form. For all their pluck and eye-catching methods there’s the problem that Blackpool are quite good at losing football matches. They’ll give you your money’s worth, that’s for damn sure, but if it’s three points you’re after then you might be found wanting. Still, breath of fresh and all that. And Charlie Adam and Disc Jockey Campbell- to name but two- have been revelations.

For Tottenham the big news is that Van der Vaart is out with more calf problems. So, too, Bale, who’s back ‘Arry is unwilling to gamble on. A midfield pairing of Sandro and Modric sounds likely, then, with Pienaar tucking in and Lennon and Kranjcar bombing the flanks. I’d personally sacrifice one of those little blighters for a chance to see Pav and Defoe to start together. But that’s just me. Thoughts?
