Vučinić Deal On?

hotspurNO DOUBT STILL BUZZING THEIR MAMMARIES OFF AFTER Saturday’s big cup win in Jo’Burg, ‘Arry and the chaps returned to the mainland this week with not only the much desired Vodaphone Challenge pot to stick in the old bauble wardrobe, but also the rather alarming realisation that another week has passed and they’re still one brand-spanking new centre-forward short of the full quota. You know the type of thing we’re after. A big ugly Number 9 who’s going to jettison us back onto the top table. Preferably one who’s been carved out of stone, can score from anywhere, can crush a human skull with his bare hands and for all intents and purposes, hates God.

Not too much to ask, I wouldn’t have thought.

Yes, dearest reader, as the sands of the transfer window slowly dwindle, the task has become somewhat of a conundrum. Ships have sailed, wage demands have been baulked at, faxes have not yet been returned. And still we’re no closer. Time and options are running watery thin. As too, the patience of many of you, the paying customer, who’d quite liked this to have been sorted….well, last Summer, as it goes. The fear for some- and it’s a legitimate fear- is that Spurs will be hauled out into the bright August sunshine next month, squinting at the heavens like new born puppies, with a motley crew of frontmen who’re either, unloved, ungainly or just plain un-good.

And it simply cannot be allowed.

So who’s in frame this week, I hear you ask? Well, Mirko Vučinić’s name is one that’s done a few internet air miles in recent days. Gazzetta dello Sport have gone as far as to say that a deal is imminent. Which is bloody good of them. The block which we look set to stumble over, however, is two-tiered. Like a small stack of Lego.  Firstly, reports suggest that Wing Commander Levy’s absolute ceiling for the Montenegrin hitman is bumbling around the £13m mark- whereas Roma are looking closer to £18m smackers for their boy. Apparently, my idea to just ‘offer them more money’ is not really in keeping with the party line and I’m more than happy to admit I’m no expert.

Things get even more complicated, though, as we discover there’s potentially a third party interested. Namely a small, family run club from the Lancashire area. Manchester something or other. Although this could well be a dastardly tactic by Vučinić’s agent (I know, unheard of) in order to hike value onto his want-away-cash-cow. And let’s be honest, Ferguson needs another striker as much as we need another season of Puma making terrible kits. So there’s every chance there’s truth in the accusations.

My view is that we’ll probably get him. But will he be enough? And more importantly, is he any good?

While I leave you smart lot to figure that out, here’s our Niko Kranjcar scoring an absolute belter against MK Dons on Tuesday.

Have a wonderful day.
