Twente Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

dont_feed_the_trolls Right, first thing’s first. No mention of a certain team in today’s cursory post. We don’t want anything unsavoury plopping into the comments box again; not while we’re all kitted out in our Wednesday Champions League best, at any rate. It’d be like the unkempt waiter clumsily spilling gravy on the bride’s dress. We could do without that.

FC Twente at The Lane this evening. A team formerly managed by Steve ‘Ssshtop, It’s Not Ready Yet’ McClaren. Dutch Champions so they are. Guided there by the Fixodent fraudster himself- before he hopped across the continent to Lower Saxony to brush up on his Eurospeak. New cheese Michel Preud’homme (old school Championship Manager, anyone?) appears to have followed on the good work; a draw with Inter in Week One and an unbeaten record in the Eredvisie are no minor details. They’re a team unused to losing.

For us an ideal situation would be a similar first half as we saw in German, but without the perfunctory flinging of a life-ring to Johnny Foreigner just before the break. If we get an early lead, for all that’s holy let’s hold onto it. Or better yet, build on it. A lot to ask perhaps for a returning ‘keeper who’s been on the sidelines for a month and lacking match fitness and a defence including…well, your guess is as good as mine. Still, I reckon we’re good for a win. Two nothing to The Hotspur.
