The Super-Deluxe, Limited Edition Blackpool Match Preview

album-cheer-upSeason over. That’s the rumour. The lottery winners from more Northerly climbs have finally gotten their act together and it couldn’t have happened at a more fateful time. While they start to inch clear of the ruddy-faced and wheezing pack, we of Spurs are betwixt a run of eight games which has seen just a solitary win procured from its beginning to end. Never mind pushing for a Top Four finish, it has the faintest whiff of relegation form about it.

It’s not just City, either. The rouge half of Merseyside have found new life in old bones; waltzing past us into fifth and playing some enthralling stuff while they’ve been at it. This, from the one-time go-to guys for a bloody good chuckle when things were looking bleak. Oh it’s not so bad, we’d say, look at Liverpool, before slapping our thighs and sloshing vintage plonk all over the carpet in wild abandon. It’s all different now, of course. Now we’re just happy if we can seek out something drinkable from the shed that doesn’t make us go blind, or if we can go a whole day without bursting into tears.

Anyway, no time for any of that nonsense. It’s Blackpool at The Lane, if you’d believe it. Marching on we go. There’s the slightest of whispers- in my head mainly- that says if we are to claw ourselves back into this thing- assisted with a final furlong collapse from City- a good ol’ timey walloping of the Tangerines might be as decent a place to start as any. When we last checked in, Holloway’s men were plugged firmly in la merde and it seems little else is new. In the scheme of things, the three points we gifted them in late-February was somewhat of an anomaly. It being the only bundle of such variety in fifteen attempts. That’s one win in fifteen and ten of them being defeats. Yes. That’s right. I’ve got stats and they are on tap.

Here’s to a full quota of points, then, a couple of goals, some eye-catching football and the little flickering light of hope which all of these things combined might well ignite. Chocks away!
