Is Rodwell The Answer? Probably Not

5935632_fullpicI read the news today, oh boy. Oh boy, indeed. The Daily Mail have printed word this morning of advanced talks involving Everton’s Jack C. Rodwell and the brave men in charge of Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer budget. By which I mean, Daniel Levy. No actual details with regard to monies are cited, but one would imagine with Liverpool setting a precedent for the value of such potentially fabulous English midfielders- with the onus very much on potential– it’ll be somewhere in the region of £80 million sterling. Which is a snip, if you ask me. Oh, you weren’t? Suit yourself.

One thing’s for sure, Everton will sell if the price is ludicrous enough. What David Moyes wouldn’t give for a sizeable chunk of lolly to splurge on a new centre-forward or two; a raison d’être that might well be significant if some of the big rollers come-a-sniffing around the excellent Leighton Baines. What isn’t so clear, is why on earth we’d entertain such a move. The makings of a great player, no diggidy, no doubt. But for the figures being bandied about- or speculated, at least- it has the hallmarks of premium rate, mobile calls may vary, madness. If we insist on taking a punt- and let’s face it, this whole game’s a bit of punt in reality- let’s at least agree it should be on a great big ugly striker with a neck like a barrel and sledgehammers for feet.

Release the hounds!
