Nothing good will come of this interlude. That’s the view from up here. Never mind the qualifiers, I’ll be quite happy if they all come back with the same number of limbs as they went out with. It’s like handing over your toy chest to the grubby kid down the road and having to bite your tongue while he cakes everything in teeth marks and snot. No, don’t swallow that. If anyone were to question Capello’s pick-those-in-form mantra, then Azza’s inclusion is surely exhibit ‘A’. As much as we’d rather not admit it- the force is not strong with this one at present.

Elsewhere, Vincenzo Iaquinta’s name is creeping back onto the radar. Whether the radar is turned on is another matter entirely. The player’s agent, Andrea D’Amico, stated categorically that he didn’t wish to comment on such rumours, then followed this up by commenting on the rumour that Tottenham were indeed sniffing around:
“I do know that Vincenzo is tracked by several clubs, including Tottenham, who have been interested in the player for a long time.”
