Sounders 81 Home Team

Pre-season. For the modern football club it’s become as much a time to focus on getting the players to the summit of their physical and mental powers, ahead of a rigorous campaign, as it has for toasting gallons of jet fuel over the oceans and really socking the #brand to the overseas market.

Spurs, being one of those modern football clubs, headed off over the Atlantic this week to say howdy to our much loved North American cousins in Seattle- hiya, Kent!- Chicago and Toronto, where the support for the London club is widespread and pleasingly spirited. It’s a shame they can’t all make it to The Lane more often.

For us fans left behind, uninspired by the thought of Ledley King opening his 11th Dunkin’ Donuts of the day and jealous of the locals who get to see the chaps in action while breathing the fine Pacific Northwest air, our attention remains fixed on the interminable Transfer Window.

That’s right, folks, The Great Summer of Not Buying Any Players Because We Blew it All Last Summer continues apace.

The parameters of business appear straightforward enough. No significant expenditure will be undertaken without some money coming in the other way. Indeed, a degree of funds has been plundered already, courtesy of young Jake Livermore, who, astonishingly, was sold to Hull for £8m. The heart wants what the heart wants, of course, and Steve Bruce’s vital organs are in the market for some overpriced English mediocrity. Put it in the vault with the rest of it, Alfred.

Elsewhere in the departures lounge, Michael Dawson and Gylfi Sigurdsson are also courting the attention of Premier League clubs. Hull, again, want Dawson and Tony Pulis is supposedly chasing the Icelandic playmaker- which, if you ask me, would be a terrible misuse of talent. You wonder what the boy might have done in a previous life to deserve that.

And who’s coming in the other way? Well I wouldn’t like to tell tales but the general feeling on them internets is that we’re stalking the bazaars for a left-back and another striker; something of an insurance policy should either Adebayor and/or Soldado go missing over the season’s course and we’re left with just Harry Kane and his rather nice side-parting.

Swansea’s Ben Davies looks to be the favourite to occupy the first post, with an £8-10m offer having reportedly been accepted. Liverpool, as ever, are our bidding buddies in that pursuit. They should get their own scouts or something LOL. #LOL.

We also did a kit. Which is just awful.

More as we get it.
