AVB Announced Today. Probably

Oooh it’s all kicking off now. Except that it’s not.

Not for the likes of us ghastly commoners, anyway. For us the wait continues at an even gallop; sitting here as we are, vaguely fumbling around in the dark recesses of the interweb while Wing-Commander Levy plots his masterplan behind closed doors.

Vilas Boas appears to be Tottenham manager in all but name. Today- definitely today– we’ve been told, but no sign of his auburn hued tresses just yet. Perhaps he’s been pawing through the back pages of the Express and fancies it’s probably not worth the bother. A player exodus is a player exodus, in any language, and no point letting the facts ruin a perfectly good piece of alarmist tommyrot.

Any minute now, by Sky Sports’ reckoning, and we’ll have our man. Well, maybe not everyone’s man, but a man all the same. That we can be sure of.

Elsewhere, in the what the bloody hell is the hold-up stakes, Jan Vertonghen trained with Ajax yesterday, which he’d threatened to do if things weren’t bulldozed through in time. Those in the know- an attribute that’s becoming harder and harder to discern these days- seem to believe a deal is still on. The images I saw, however, didn’t look too much like a man being kept against his will. In fact the Belgian has quite an attractive meh attitude to the whole thing. I go, I stay. It’s all groovy.

Let’s hope he’s unveiled before long. Like a mighty bazooka.

In other news, Spurs youngsters, Danny Rose and Steven Caulker, got themselves aboard the Team GB Olympic trawler yesterday. Which gloriously leaves port later this month. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that there’s a distinct lack of David Beckham about these two- but I’m sure, in spite of these deficiencies, we can get behind them and wish them well. Those brave, brave souls.
