Deadline Day Aftermath: Will Spurs Regret Selling Sandro?

sandro1Not counting the poor SSN reporter whose entire career was distilled into a thirty-second Vine of him fighting off the advances of a large purple dildo, it was perhaps Spurs’ public relations department who were kept the most occupied on Transfer Deadline Day.

Much of their resourses were used up trying to clear the air after the club bid cheerio to fans’ favourites, Sandro and Lewis Holtby; less than a week after discarding another much-admired servant, Michael Dawson.

It’ll take weeks of carpet shampooing and window opening to purge that unfortunate funk.

As the Stranglers once asked, what happened to all the heroes?

In the bin, that’s where.

There might be a time when we can look back and decide that it was cunning business to get £10m, for what is essentially an injury-prone hypeman with impressive facial hair, but right now it feels like a rushed sale, for a miserably low fee.

A number of supporters will rightly cling to the belief that, at 25, Sandro still had plenty of years in which to recapture his once formidable powers. Let’s hope we don’t curse the day that ‘Arry ‘Sign ’em Twice’ Redknapp finally got one over on Daniel Levy.

Of course judgement can be skewed when assessing the worth of a well-liked player. Look at United fans with Welbeck or us with Disco Benny, a man consumed with radioactive levels of ennui toward the club.

But even ignoring the fact that Sandro appeared not to be a complete socket- he took his dog to training, fercrissakes– there was a time, before the injuries, when we looked at him as being a potential great. Tentative whispers of Steve Perryman and Dave Mackay. An all-action, multi-skilled midfielder with a fondness for bone-shuddering challenges and thirty-yard wonder strikes. He appeared fully equipped to take on the world.

And now we’ve sold him. To QPR.

It all feels a bit too soon.
