5 January Targets For Pochettino to Consider

Harry Kane gave an interview before the season started when he said “He wanted to become a Spurs Legend and he wasn’t a one season wonder” Well, if Harry manages to single-handedly fires Spurs into top four contention then will be on his way to cementing his place in the club’s history.

Nevertheless, young Kane, who is Spurs’ only recognised out and out first team striker, could do with some help up front.

And it appears Pochettino has got his scouts well placed in time for a January transfer window raid – here are five potential targets that could be on their way to White Hart Lane.

Laurent Depoitre – Gent

The 26 year-old Belgian striker has gone under the radar in recent seasons but he is peaking just at the right time for club and country. Depoitre scored 13 league goals in 35 games for Gent last season and has started this season on fire with six goals in 10 ten games. The striker made his international debut for Belgium last week against Andorra and scored in the 4-1 win.

The 6ft3 forward is a similar type of striker to Kane as he likes to play the number 9 role, but this could suit Kane who looks to work the channels and drop deep to get involved in build-up play.

Depoitre’s agent has already made noises about the striker wanting a move to the Premier League so Spurs should act quick they want to snap up the in-form Belgian front man who will be arousing more interest across the continent if he continues his impressive streak of form.

Keisuke Honda – AC Milan

The AC Milan man is feeling frustrated with life at the San Siro and has put a host of clubs on red alert for a January signing. But it remains to be seen whether or not he would improve this current Spurs side.

There is no doubting his ability from set pieces and his experience could dovetail well for the youthful exuberance of Harry Kane but Honda is more of an attacking midfielder / second attacker and has managed just seven goals in 47 Serie A matches for Milan.

It’s an interesting option for Pochettino as the fee for the Japanese talisman would be reasonable and his experience could well help Spurs in the short term.

Saido Berahino – West Brom

Probably the worst kept secret of the last transfer window was the desire of West Brom’sSaidoBerahino to join the Pochettino revolution at the Lane.

In the end, however, it boiled down to Jeremy Pearce holding firm and refusing to sell the young striker. But this hasn’t stopped the speculation of Spurs having a second bite of the cherry.

Berahino ticks all of the boxes in terms of Premier League experience and goal scoring – he has also played alongside Kane in the England U21’s setup and can only improve in the coming seasons.

The stumbling block remains however, the fee that would be acceptable for Spurs and West Brom.

Moses Simon – Gent

Spurs have also been linked with Depoitre’s teammate at Gent – Moses Simon. The 20 year-old has been dubbed “The Nigerian Ronaldo” and looks to set to spark a bidding war in the coming transfer window. It’s been reported that both Spurs and Liverpool have been sniffing around the talented youngster and been told a fee in the region of 15m would secure his services.

Simon scored for his country in the recent 3-0 win over Cameroon but he hasn’t managed a league goal for Gent this season and isn’t an out and out striker.

Leroy Sane – Schalke

Another talented youngster that could be playing in the lilywhite of Spurs next year is Leroy Sane. The 19 year-old winger is another off of the production line at Schalke and looks primed for a move in the next 6-12 months.

Sane has been on fire this season for the Bundesliga side with three goals in eight appearances from a wide position, while he also impressed for the German U21’s with three goals in his last two games.

Spurs reportedly made a failed bid of 8.5m over the summer but Pochettino could may well come in again for the attacking midfielder/winger. While the signing of Sane would be welcomed on White Hart Lane, would it be really addressing the problem of the lack of support for Harry Kane?
