What Arsenal need to do in the summer to transform the club

It is likely to be a very busy summer for Arsenal boss Unai Emery who will have the first chance to improve the squad after what has been a season full of ups and downs.

Ethan Rowe, from bestbettingsites.online which is a website that compares and reviews the best betting sites in the UK,  has said that bookmakers believe the Spaniard will focus his attention on the defence and will try to get Leicester City’s key man, Harry Maguire.

The investment is expected to be heavy to bring Maguire to the Emirates. The England international has joined the Foxes back in 2017 for £17 million and considering what he has done in the last two years, his evaluation is significantly higher now. If Emery will decide to make a move for the 26 years old defender, the Gunners will have to delve deep into their pockets to pay for the transfer.

There are many ‘big guns’ in search of defenders after a disappointing season and this is likely to increase the price of the defender. Manchester United have had a £75m bid rejected by Leicester in the last summer and since the Foxes are in no pressure to sell their best players, the price would probably be higher than that.

Maguire has helped Leicester to record five clean sheets during his 30 league matches this season. Brendan Rodgers has remembered to interested clubs that Harry is a Leicester City player who has signed a new five years contract just one year ago.

Probably the only way for Arsenal to be able to attract players of the level of Harry Maguire is if they will have Champions League football next season. After failing to get into the top 4 in the Premier League, Arsenal only chance to be in the Champions League is to win the Europa League. If this will happen surely Unai Emery will have better chances of attracting better players.

Arsenal’s fans were disappointed for failing to reach the top four in the Premier League. The Gunners had a fantastic chance to secure that, but the last few weeks have been dreadful for them and on the weekend they failed to defeat Brighton at home. It was not surprising to see home fans booing at the end of the game with lots of fans that left the Emirates ahead of players lap of appreciation.

One sure thing is that Aaron Ramsey, Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck will leave the club. The Wales international departure has upset lots of fans who are now expecting he will be replaced in the right way. Ramsey was already missed in the last few games of this season due to injury with performances that have dipped significantly.

One area that Unai Emery would have to strengthen over the summer is undoubtedly the Arsenal’s back line. Throughout the season they have committed so many errors that have been eventually costly for the top 4. In many situations, they have been saved by the efficient front duo made by Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Many fans believe that Arsenal’s situation at the back is so bad that literally, any signing would help towards solving those big problems. There have been rumours that Emery was looking to bring Ajax star De Ligt to the Emirates. Realistically this seems very unlikely with the Dutch international that is one of the highly-rated prospects in Europe and with massive clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and others all looking to land him.
