New York, New York. Sinatra told the world he wanted to be a part of it; Tottenham quite happy to parachute their troops just south of it and get their hands on some pre-season Tupperware. And we were awfully close- an extra goal or two and ‘Arry and the chaps would be jetting home with the more than just walnut tans- the likes of which you’d normally find bottled in Danielle Lloyd‘s medicine cabinet. The Challenge of Gotham City is over. And the prognosis makes for interesting reading.
Robbie Keane. Player of the Tournament. On first glance at our double-return-fare hitman and you’d guess he’d been sleeping rough for the last few months. In the woods. Eating nothing but tree bark like some kind of grizzly wild-man. Thirty going on retired. Peel off a few layers, though, and things are not as they seem. He almost- almost- looked interested. Sunday’s peachy little number was even met by the open arms of beaming team-mates- who appear to have warmed to the idea that Uncle Bob might be hanging around for a while. Gawd help us.
Alan Hutton and Jermain Jenas’s efforts over the tour have earned pretty guff appraisals. One such review wasn’t even constructed with words- just a smear of faeces at the foot of the page. I’m worried for them. I am. Some form of witness re-location programme might be in order. Perhaps to a balmy little cul-de-sac in Solihull where the angry man on the street can’t hurl the contents of their pockets at them.
As well as knocking up a few stamps on their passports, the younglins have been getting decent hours in. Obika amongst the goals in New Jersey- a moment he confirmed to a US reporter to be his best of the season. It being July, we might all have arrived at the same conclusion. Elsewhere, Adel Taraabt reminded us, if only in flashes, why we’re still a little reluctant to let him squirm through the net. He does look awfully good at times. Real Madrid will no doubt be faxing over the contract details as we speak.
Fo-shizzle.

When I watch Taarabt I genuinely do want to like him, I really do. Creative, unpredictable, imaginative, all great qualitys for an entertaining footballer. Unfortunately his main attribute is being impossibly frustrating.
If he wasn’t such a little gobshite and cut out half the tricks he tries I might find a way to loving him. If he can manage those two things (not holding my breath as he seems a little dense) then he could still have a career at WHL yet.
The lads should be ultra fit after playing in that heat for a week
By the way Foxy and anyone else that’s interested there’s a new Tottenham forum started up called Triffic Tottenham and it could do with a few members, you can post your own youtube videos on there and discuss all topics.Hope to see you on there.
Fox, you could advertise your blog on there if you ask.
WFRF – nice pic
cswy – I agree with you about Tarby. He entertains, it’s just theres always a ‘but’. (geddit Tarbutt?) Ok. I know…
Foggy – ref triffic tottenham, no offence meant if you’re in any way related to it, but that site smacks of amatuer from the logo to the content to the colours. Whenever I’ve clicked on it I’ve been put off. I’ll give it a go again, but imo it needs to find a decent niche.
Cheers for taking a look Trembly,The owner Coxie has just started it up as far as I know and I’m trying to give him a helping hand by informing people of it’s existance.
Was there for both games, Keane defiantly grew in confidence as the time ticked, he looked shaky in the Red bull game but finished the Lisbon game in real good shape, it is also true to say he was looking like a top notch pro, encouraging everyone in the team. Hutton was the worst by far and as for Jenas, I did see him trying and at times looked decent. Adel, No! typical displays from him, one moment of genius where he beat about three players in one move, the rest of the time Toilet!!!! Overall, had a great weekend and just ask the hierarchy of Tottenham to bring them here to the states again and also to show some love to the supporters over here, some of us traveled a long way to get to the games to find a CLOSED training session (I got in anyway
and most annoyingly at the final whistle only Andros Townsend found time to clap the supporters, next time will it kill them all to trot over and show some appreciation for their fans?? We were by far the best fans of the tournament too and by far the loudest……COYS!!!
I normally rag on Taarabt pretty hard, but that game against Sporting was the best I’ve ever seen him play. Which isn’t saying much–he remains the most naturally gifted mediocrity in recent Spurs history–but he showed enough to warrant being kept around for at least one more season, possibly another loan deal. If Harry can get him to focus on getting the simple things right every time and let the moments of brilliance come naturally instead of trying to force it, then he could blossom into a useful player. See also: David Bentley, work in progress.
You guys ……….
The Keano deal is simple. He scores goals – always has always will. The problem is that he competes for the same position as JD.
PSB is older and Arry prefers JD and that’s it, end of ………………Keano
It seems obvious that, Hutton, Bentley, Keane and Jenas are not wanted and are more useful as part exchange for Ashley Young, Scott Parker or Kenwynne Jones.
As an avid part-time QPR fan i can see why everyone is bashing Taarabt. He was a luxury show pony, bought in to show a the baying masses at Loftus Road where the ‘money’ was being spent.
However, the bloke is 21, and a serious knee injury coincided with a massive drop in the clubs form. Ronaldo didn’t have a final ball, Rooney was no good in the air, they turned out OK, ask this question – JJ or Taarabt? Youtube his goal against Preston North End, this is why we watch this game. Beats a Rory Delap throw in.
‘Avid part-time QPR fan’
Now there’s an oxymoron if ever I heard one.
However- a most welcome post, sir.
