Redknapp and England Stuff Happened…Then More Stuff Happened
Jul 062010

lets-do-nothing

I suppose it’s indicative of our nature as impatient, thrill-seeking bipeds, but you almost wish the summer window would play out like it did in the Ramos era. You remember- when players trundled in and out of White Hart Lane like an overcapacity nightclub with a strict one in/ three out policy? Modric, Gomes, Pavlyuchenko, Bentley, all coming one way; half the population of North London going t’other. Sure, the net result was one of disorder, confusion and widespread meltdown, but at least we weren’t twiddling our thumbs with the same fervour as we are currently. At this rate, we’ll all have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome before July’s through.

The daily rags seem to have given up on us, too. Instead they’ve taken to bottling last month’s buzz regarding Joe Cole, Forlan and Arda Turan. All of which are no closer to being true as they were then; bar the odd gush from ‘Arry, telling the world and his dog what a fantastic player such and such is before returning to the driving-range to shank another ball in the river. Nothing concrete. Just Redknapp letting us know he’s still with us. Add that to the fact Forlan has come out publicly to deny any such talk of him returning to the EPL, and it looks as if we might have to wait a little while longer before this close-season even so much as twitches.

Still no sight, either, of next term’s new clobber. All the internet leakage of that retro number we saw earlier in the year has neither been denied nor confirmed. There’s rumour of a multiple sponsor deal afoot- one which has Daniel Levy written all over it. Although, hopefully not his actual name written all over it. Or his face for that matter. I vote we just put all our efforts into securing the Findus Crispy Pancake deal and be done with it. Cheese and ham for the home, minced beef for away.

Or maybe just get Facebook to sponsor us.

*WFRF? dislikes this*.

For a second there, I read Capel.

and not Carpal. Must be the summer window…

    • Capel Turan Syndrome.

Effects many a Spurs fan over the summer months. May cause adverse excitement before eventual, widespread boredom. Any available treatment will act only as a placebo. Or, as we call it, an ITK.

There’s sweet FA happening, or, at least. that we know about.

Considering it’s Spurs (it’s normal to have a million and one players linked with us) and considering we’re run by Harry (it’s normal for him to link himself to a million and nine players) it does seem a little bit TOO quiet.

Add in the lack of sponsorship announcement when other teams have all published pics of their stars in their respective kits, then N17 starts feeling a bit like a ghost town. Just like what the Specials said.

    Weird.

Weekly shirt sponsorship is the way forward. No one wants to pay the tariff Levy demands for a three year deal, but it will go over easier to get a business to pay out for a one-off. Pringles one week, XBox the next. Hell, they could switch shirts at halftime, if an outfit can’t afford an entire game. Whatever brings in the dough.

I won’t buy a shirt until Chico’s Bail Bonds is on the front.

  5. Foggy Foggy says:

Evening folks,It looks as though were struggling to bring in that big name, probably due to the fact that we’re fairly new to the Champions League and they’re not sure whether we will last the course.

On another point, that strip which was all over the web is now in the Spurs shop in the form of a casual jacket, and very smart it is too.although at fifty pounds.

  6. cswy cswy says:

It’s all too quiet at the moment.

All this business of having a settled squad, not making any wholesale changes this close to pre-season, Rednose not tapping up our best players…who do we think we are? We haven’t even had a chuffing transfer saga yet! Jesus wept!

At least if Levy manages to broker multiple sponsership deals next season we have a one in four chance of not having any poxy red in one of them.

  7. Longwell Longwell says:

I don’t know, Foxy. The lack of activity doesn’t seem so jarring after last year’s quiet summer. What’s shocking is that it took so long for someone to come into the club and show us It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way.

    • You’re right of course, Longwell, nothing drastic need happen to make this a very productive summer. And the smart answer would have that be the case. It’s just this quiet season is a terrible strain on us bloggers. Bar making stuff up or writing about the tennis, I’ve little else to do but pine for a time when the gossip was as its juiciest.

Silly really. I talk about this club like its Heat magazine.

      Dear oh dear… :(

Anyone living around The Nutrilite Training Camp owned by San Jose Earthquakes should be made aware of Tottenham holding an open training session on the fifteenth of July, the day will also consist of a question and answer time with Spurs team members and media representatives. The day kicks of at nine o’clock sharp,be there and take your note pads and camera phone to send Foxy any juicy information.

It might be an idea to try and come up with some decent questions of our own just in case someone gets the chance to pull Harry to one side, what say you?

I’m so bored of waiting for some worthwhile Spurs news, I’ve just made some up…

In this respect, I am quite an authentic ITK.

BONG!! Dublin born Spurs striker Robbie Keane marries cartoon mouse. Keane, the Dublin born striker met Minnie, his wife-to-be, while on holiday in Skegness. Keane, 30, the Dublin born striker, said of her “orrrioghty’seesheisvurryloverleyyooknowwhaddimeantobesure…d’yawannadag?”. Keane, who started his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers, is 30 this year, and was born in Dublin. His boyhood club was Celtic, and probably Liverpool as well. Probably.

BONG!! Tottenham announce not at all complicated sponsorship package; Daniel Levy surprised many by announcing Spurs would have 58 different sponsors for next season, including unique sponsorship deals for Premier Leage, Champions League, Domestic Cups, Mondays, When it’s raining, Full Moon, Leap year, Volcanic Ash eruptions, October and the Queens birthday. In an even more surprising deal, he announced that no sponsor has yet been secured for extra time, meaning at the end of 45 and 90 minutes, the players must dash to the sidelines and put on a blank shirt, Except for Benoit Assou Ekotto, who will be having his afro shaved into a likeness of the Monster Munch logo for the first 90 days of the season, before having it restyled into a mullet for no reason.

BONG!! Harry reshapes the midfield by bringing in Judge Dredd, Optimus Prime, Giant Haystacks and The Bride from Kill Bill. Of his new midfield, Harry said “That boy Optimus has it all; fantastic distribution, dignity, a quiet air of authority, a big laser cannon and the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. You can’t doubt his quality – you don’t lose that overnight just because Michael Bay has put you in one of his awful films. As for Dredd, triffic player, triffic, I saw him brutally arrest Harry Kewel down the right wing once for menacing oldsters, and Uma Thurman as The Bride will administer an indiscriminate arc of death with her Hattori Hanzo samurai sword down the left to terrorise defences both in the EPL and in Europe. Did you see her take on the Crazy 88? Triffic!”

Cheers Foxy! I didn’t want to shamelessly advertise the new blog in your gaff, deemed it appropriate and worried about coming across like a bit of a cock.

I am in the midst of re-inventing myself Ziggy style! New blog, new moniker I even got a new haircut to celebrate. Just got to find the right sponser for it all now, hmmm.

Tried letting you know K-Biz but didn’t trust myself not to fudge it up through the PM messaging service here by accidentally messaging everyone (see point one).

Anyhoo much love again for the props Fox

I’ll make sure I keep you informed of any movements in future Kaybee ;-)

Don’t want any more of these public dressing downs. Feeling suitably chastised I’ve changed my pic to a visual representation of my past life.

The close season kills me so thought I’d take a little break and sort out the site. I’m back now though and there should be some interesting developments with the blog over the next couple of months.

Anyway I’ll shut up now :-)

The pre-season friendly game against Benfica in Lisbon on 3rd August is also being shown live on ESPN.”

    ….Anyone want it?

  15. KayBee KayBee says:

It’s pretty darn impressive stuff from our Dr Evil-a-like chairman. And the Logo’s pretty inoffensive. Happy.

  20. KayBee KayBee says:

How long before you see someone on-line somewhere complain about the small dot of red on the Autonomy logo? ;)

  21. onedavemackay onedavemackay says:

It is rather quiet on the transfer front but I expect Bellamy to arrive fairly soon, Keane is obviously on his way out and Pav is pretty much certain to join him. So a top striker (Suarez maybe ?) is bound to arrive soon

    • Trembly Trembly says:

..to arrive soon. Bound and gagged, kicking and screaming, just as long as we get the right player to make that world class positive difference :)

      • onedavemackay onedavemackay says:

        Amen to that.

Last season we seemed to be creating 15+ goal attempts per game without converting a decent percentage. Suarez has scored 74 in 97 for Ajax, that’s the sort we need.

        • Longwell Longwell says:

          Small Sample Size Alert:

From what I’ve seen of him in the World Cup, I think Suarez has more than a touch of the Alfonso Alves about him. And he seems to be a bit of a twat.

I’d much, much rather have Forlan if he’d consider coming back to England.

  22. WFRF? WFRF? says:

Good work people. It almost feels like we’ve got our Tottenham back doesn’t it? Kaybee- I’ve checked the spam box and there’s no sign of your post. Hopefully it hasn’t fizzed into the ether. I’ll keep looking. ODM- pleasure to have you.

Stand by for for more Flashbacks and a healthy dose of new sponsor hoo-hah.

    As you were….

  23. How I missed this place! All the names being tossed around these days linked with Spurs and the only one I believe is Joe Cole. I think Harry’s been marinating this deal for quite some time now. What do you think Foxie?????

    • KayBee KayBee says:

      Welcome back our Elwhbi!

Like you, I firmly believe the Cole deal is going to happen. Harry simply hasn’t stopped talking about JC since the close of the season, and I just can’t see the boy Cole going to the Arse.

Expect photo opportunity with Cole being unveiled as our “marquee signing” in the nice new retro kit in the next few weeks. ;)

      • Trembly Trembly says:

It would actually disappoint me if Joey was the only marquee signing this summer :(

        • SeattleSpursGuy SeattleSpursGuy says:

Me as well. I know we have needs to fill–not as many as in the past, but some–but first and foremost is the “lead the line” striker. I could live with no other additions if we get that one piece.. We have to have the option of five in midfield and one up front. We don’t have the striker to do this now. It’s our biggest weakness…apart from Jenas.

Now if I can just get Harry on the phone……

      • Great to be back KayBee!!!! I’m ready and waiting for something and anything at this point!

  24. Hey guys, does anyone think Pav can actually lead our attack lineup? What if played alone up front? Or is he only effective in a 4-4-2?

    • Trembly Trembly says:

Depends which Pav turns up…that’s the problem.

    • onedavemackay onedavemackay says:

Of course Pav can play up front on his own, the real question is would Harry play that formation and as long as JD is around I think the answer is probably no.
