Mix it all together, season with a pinch of Kranjcar, put it in the oven for a few months and you’ll get a lovely fourth or fifth place finish at the end.

What’s all this about Real Madrid being linked with a move for our Gareth? One window has just closed and the blogosphere can’t stop with the speculation. I blame John Toshack myself. Partly because it’s his fault but mostly on principal.

Best headline I saw was “Real Madrid to make shock January bid for winger Bale”. How will it be a shock if we know about it four months ahead of time!? Not that I expect anything to come of it. He’s just signed a new contract and we’ve no need to sell. At 21 a move to Madrid would be a really big step. He’s still learning his trade and to try to do that in another country with a different language and culture would be risky. And £27 million? Add 1 to the tens column and we’re getting close. As if he’s worth only a couple of million more than Milner!

First of all the Baler is gonna be a left back as far as Arry is concerned and as we have a shortage of left sided midfielders VDV can certainly fill in there.

However, the main gig is that when Modders is out he’s a big miss. Niko is no bad replacement in the Prem but when it comes to the CL we’ll need a bit more class and the Dutch Gypsy has that in buckets.

He also has the best looking Wag in Europe if not the World.

I’d have us playing 4-2-3-1 with Modric the deep-lying playmaker in the bank of 2 an Van der Vaart the central attacking midfielder in the bank of 3. All the rest is pretty fungible to me, really. We have quality and versatility all over the pitch.
