Superior Spurs Topple World Champions

The hardest conundrums are often solved by the most simple of answers. How do we stop the England national side from being such a cheerless band of underachieving knuckleheads? Ignore reputation and throw in the players who’re doing the business at club level, that’s how.

It’s no surprise that the most galvanised team performance in recent memory was coordinated by members of this season’s stand-out sides in English football. Tottenham and Leicester.

It all seems so obvious now. The trailblazers in this year’s title race have been noticeable by their powers as a collective. Although there’ve been pockets of individual brilliance— Kane, Mahrez, Alli and Vardy will surely dominate both categories of the PFA awards— it’s the team that’s prevailed.

Now, while the tactic of Chucking in All The Spurs Lads is possibly too straightforward a root cause for England’s upturn in fortunes, the sight of Dele Alli and the gang translating their club form against the World Champions, tearing around with all the confidence and energy of, well, a well-drilled German side, can’t help but have ignited the interest of England fans watching ringside or at home.

We’re going to win the bloody Euros!
