Champions League Dreaming: Will Spurs Move on?

While the fourth position in the Table does not seem all that far away with Spurs only needing to fill a three-point gap, there‘s still plenty of match weeks left that could get in the way of finally making it to the Champions League again. Does Tottenham have what it takes to keep up with the best teams in England?

With a third best goal difference shared with Leicester City, Spurs‘ biggest hurdle seems to be winning games, rather than drawing them. The lads have only lost twice this far – although granted, being defeated by Newcastle United of all teams isn‘t exactly inspiring. Still, the 4:1 victory vs Man City is something that the squad should be able to replicate.

Meanwhile Europa League has been very successful for Tottenham– they came out first in their group with a solid goal difference, only having lost one game out of the six. Qualifying through winning this League is also a very viable option, and considering how well the Spurs have been doing so far, it’s something to be considered.

When it comes to the players, the team relies heavily on Harry Kane scoring the goals, with him having managed a total of 10, eight of which were in Premier League. Erik Lamela seems to be having more success in the international field, which is where he scored five goals out of his total of seven.

These stats, however, are a bit lacking this far in the season and it is a bit disconcerting to see the squad only having two regular high scorers. Obviously, the defence is not to be disregarded and the team does a good enough job with only 14 goals allowed in the PL, but you can’t win without scoring, and vs Newcastle, Harry Kane did not score.

While Chelsea fighting a whole different kind of a battle this year does free up some space up the top, there are still plenty of tough teams to beat who want to win and qualify no less than the Spurs. According to the UK-licensed bookie TonyBet though, Tottenham has the odds of 7/5 to make it to the Top 4, which makes them the fifth favourites. Not that bad!

In addition to that, there’s always a chance to dominate the Europa League, killing two birds with one stone: an international trophy along with the moving up to the Champions League. There’s still plenty of season left for the squad to continue improving and to fix their issues, and assuming they don’t lose both of the top scorers, this season may end very happily for Spurs.
