The Team to Face WBA

We’ve been treated to a unique kind of shambles from Spurs this season. You’ve almost got to admire the creativity of a side that can exist both as a series of long-running jokes where every punch-line invariably involves Michael Dawson’s shorts falling down or losing 5-0; and yet somehow show signs of being quite decent. While the whiff of mediocrity has been strong this year, it’s far from been the motorway pile-up oh-god-everything-is-on-fire catastrophe that comes, say, after a summer of replacing your best striker with Frazier Campbell, forgetting to buy any defenders and then being surprised when you sink to the bottom of the table like a weighted body in a canal.

No, this has been much weirder.

That’s not to say that all the hallmarks of a dismal campaign haven’t been there. We’ve seen all your favourite hits: wallopings from anything resembling a decent side (and West Ham), Cup exits, expensive signings not delivering, panic sackings, incompetent (but somehow statistically without equal) replacements. On the whole, it’s been a jamboree of ineptitude. And yet, against all the odds, with five games remaining, Timbo Swearword is on course to finish with a record points total, which, should Arsenal and Everton falter, could even see us sneak past the recycling bins and through the backdoor of Champions League qualification. It’s a long-shot for those looking online at SportsBettingDime.com but all this sleeveless daywear and touchline dicking-about could actually work. Imagine. Spurs forever paradoxical. We’re sh*t. But somehow good.

Anyway, next stop for the travelling circus is The Hawthorns for a 3.07 kick-off with relegation-threatened West Brom. Who will Sherwood pick? You get the impression he’s in disnaegiveafuck mode after the sacking rumours last week so it could be anything. Harry Kane will start. That I’d put money on. On with the show!
