Spurs Are Worse Than England

dracularSo, anyone care to talk about Tuesday night? I wasn’t privy to any of the goings-on or morbidly curious enough to indulge in what you might call highlights, but the gentle murmurings about town seem to murmur thusly: that Gomes was bad, GDS even more so and Pavlyuchenko a poor first-touch away from being publicly lynched. Wretched stuff. Feel free to join the dots and tell me there’s encouragement to be had by such an outcome but to me it sounds an awful lot like we’ve been dumped out of the cup by Stoke. And rock that certainly does not.

And why are we so terrible at penalties? Our man from Seattle rolled out some interesting numbers on here yesterday. It makes for pretty grim reading:

“FA CUP 5th ROUND, 1996, LOST 1-3 TO Nottingham Forest
CARLING CUP 5th ROUND, 2003, LOST 4-5 TO Middlesbrough
CARLING CUP QUARTER FINAL, 2004, LOST 3-4 TO Liverpool
UEFA CUP LAST 16, 2008, LOST 6-5 TO PSV
CARLING CUP FINAL, 2009, LOST 4-1 TO Manchester United”

The last spot-kick triumph? 1994. Peterborough United. Yes, that’s right. We’re like England. Only worser.

To misquote the recently dispersed hippie-rock-lites, R.E.M: It’s not quite the end of the world as we know it.

But a pot would’ve been nice, eh?
